The ultimate goal of our office is to preserve your natural teeth for life, which plays an important role in maintaining your overall health. This can be achieved with regular professional dental cleanings and proper oral hygiene. To better achieve our goal, the care you receive at Ousborne and Keller will always include the most technologically advanced equipment.

Laser Light

Among the newest technologies available is DIAGNOdent , a small laser instrument that painlessly scans teeth with harmless laser light. The laser beam locates hidden decay before it has a chance to destroy the tooth structure from the inside out.

Widespread usage of fluoride in dental materials, tooth pastes and drinking water has helped to make outer tooth surfaces much harder and far more resistant to decay. However, diagnosing cavities is often more difficult now because the decay can start through microscopic defects in the enamel and then spread quickly into the softer structure beneath the surface. The outer surface could appear healthy, yet decay may be present ‘inside’ the tooth. Digital radiographs and probing will show decay on the outer surface and between the teeth, however, identifying decay in the sub surface can prove more challenging.

DIAGNOdent allows Drs. Ousborne and Keller to monitor the subsurface of teeth. It becomes possible to locate decay that is hidden beneath the enamel and allows us to stop the spread of it before it can continue to destroy the tooth from within. Ousborne and Keller proudly stands behind our work. The quality of your dental treatment is never an accident. It is always the result of sincere effort, high intentions, skillful execution and intelligent direction. It represents the wise choice of many alternatives. Utilizing technology like DIAGNOdent, makes it possible to provide the highest quality of dental care in the most gentle, efficient and effective method possible.

The Procedure

A pen-like probe is moved over the tooth surfaces of each tooth. This instrument provides instant feedback to the dentist and dental hygienist as a number scale and alarm sounds when there is evidence of hidden decay.
