Veneers

Towson Dentist

Porcelain veneers are used to modify the shape, size, spacing and color of teeth. Veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are etched and then bonded to the tooth. Some tooth preparation is necessary to avoid ‘bulkiness’ of the tooth, but it is most often limited to the enamel and usually involves only a few surfaces of the tooth.

These individually customized, handmade, ceramic shells are bonded directly to the front and biting edge of the teeth. They are often an ideal conservative choice for enhancing smiles and have become increasingly popular due to their stunning results and versatility. With veneers as an alternative, there is no reason to put up with gaps or spaces between your teeth, teeth that are stained, or teeth that are badly shaped, or crooked. A thin veneer placed over your teeth can correct these maladies and help you achieve a beautiful smile!

How Durable Are Porcelain Veneers ?

You can feel confident that Drs. Ousborne and Keller will ensure that your veneers are crafted from the highest quality porcelains by the world’s finest technicians, and that they are bonded with the most advanced and proven materials available in dentistry. With proper care, porcelain veneers will generally brighten your smile for well over a decade and beyond.

Will They Look Like Natural Teeth?

When bonded to the teeth by Drs. Ousborne and Keller , the ultra-thin, virtually undetectable veneers are highly resistant to coffee, tea, or even cigarette stains. Their resemblance to healthy, white tooth enamel is unsurpassed in terms of strength and appearance. The thin porcelain allows light to shine through and gives the veneers a natural translucency.

The Procedure

You will want to take an active role in planning your smile design. Drs. Ousborne and Keller will review the positive enhancements and corrective limitations of this procedure to help you plan your new smile. Although the porcelain veneers are very thin, the teeth are slightly reduced in size to allow for the added ceramics. iTero™ digital impressions are taken of the teeth and sent to our laboratory technician for fabrication. A provisional veneer will be fabricated and adhered to the tooth until the finished porcelain veneer is ready to be placed. Once the porcelain veneer is ready to be applied, the provisional is removed, the tooth is cleaned with specific chemicals to achieve a strong bond. Special bonding cement is placed between the teeth and the veneer. A specifically filtered, blue-colored visible light is used to harden (‘cure’) the cement. When bonded to completion by Ousborne and Keller, porcelain veneers are extremely tight-fitting, stain resistant, and strong.

Maintenance of Your New Veneers

It is recommended by Ousborne and Keller that you brush and floss as you normally would. Doing so will not damage the veneers. We suggest you use non-abrasive toothpaste, maintain a good home care maintenance regimen. This will help to insure the durability of your veneers.

It is not uncommon to experience some mild temperature sensitivity after placement. This sensitivity is generally temporary and should dissipate with time. If the sensitivity persists, please do not hesitate to contact our office.

If you are a known clencher (bruxer /grinder), please be sure to inform the staff of Ousborne and Keller. The Dentist may recommend a nightguard . This should help to minimize stress placed upon your veneers while sleeping.

With proper home care and regularly scheduled hygiene visits, porcelain veneers placed by Ousborne and Keller can help you to fulfill your esthetic goals and provide you with a beautiful smile for many years.
